El laboratorio está especializado en la determinación de componentes bioquímico-metabólicos en organismos marinos y acuáticos. Estas determinaciones se llevan a cabo por métodos en su mayoría bioquímico-clínico, utilizando kits clínicos de reacciones enzimático-colorimetricas y reacciones químico-colorimétricas adaptando la técnica para material biológico distinto del de procedencia humana. La técnica a utilizar depende del metabolito que nos interese medir y del tipo y procedencia del material biológico.
